Today, it is easier for Canadian businesses to trade with other countries than it is to trade between Canadian provinces. Costly interprovincial trade barriers are costing us billions of dollars every year.
A Conservative government will reduce interprovincial trade barriers and reduce Canada's dependency on a single export market: the United States. We will work with provincial partners to reduce exemptions and harmonize Canadian rules, standards and training across the country. A Conservative Blue Seal Professional Licensing Standard will make it easier for doctors, nurses and engineers to work anywhere in Canada, and will enable quicker certification for foreign-trained professionals to meet Canadian standards. We will also prioritize improvements in our pipelines, rail lines, transmission lines and ports.
To get it done, instead of adding to our deficit or taxes a Conservative government will offer provinces a Free Trade Bonus drawn from the increased revenues, reinvesting the benefits of improved interprovincial trade back into participating provinces.
