Canvassing in City View

Ryan was focused on canvassing in the City View area this weekend.

Ryan had the opportunity to chat with many local residents in the City View area this past weekend, particularly in the area near the Nepean Museum. As always, affordability, housing and the environment were top issues. Effectiveness of our healthcare system, particularly federal transfer payments to the provinces, was raised at many doors. Ryan met three different small business owners who each expressed concern about the challenges they faced. He also had a chance to chat about Arctic sovereignty, future Canadian naval capabilities and procurement issues with a local (off-duty!) expert working on those files. Another individual - a refugee from Ukraine - regretted that he would not be able to vote, but was heartened when Ryan assured him of his support for Ukraine in their ongoing conflict with Russia.

However, two stories stood out this weekend. One individual, originally from Africa, was very excited for Ryan's visit claiming that in his two decades living in Ottawa that no politician had ever knocked on his door. Another individual, also a first generation Canadian, had just earned his citizenship and was ecstatic that he would be voting for the first time in his life - and was committed to voting Conservative. It is the energy, enthusiasm and encouragement of supporters like these in Ottawa West-Nepean that will ensure we elect a new Conservative government.

(They aren't from Ottawa West-Nepean, but a special mention must go to the two rock-solid Conservative guys Ryan met from Arnprior who are building a house on Harris Place!)
