Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day offers an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by our veterans and current members of our Canadian Armed Forces.

Remembrance Day

Today, Ryan remembers his grandfathers who both served in the Royal Canadian Airforce during World War II. Ryan and his wife Amanda had the opportunity to visit the Juno Beach visitor centre in France last year, where they walked on the same beach where Amanda's grandfather landed on D-Day.

"The local street names in Parkwood Hills - Normandy, Falaise - running alongside the war homes built at that time for our veterans," said Ryan, "reminds me every day of Canada's contributions in Europe and around the world."

"Our generation must also remember the service of our veterans from recent conflicts, especially Afghanistan. On Remembrance Day, I remember the sacrifices of the more than 130 Canadians who died during my years working on our mission in Kandahar province, including three I knew personally: Canadian diplomat Glyn Berry, Corporal Nick Bulger and Major Michelle Mendes. They are not forgotten."
